AITEC Italian Association of cement manufacturers is since 1959 the national cement industry representative body.
Cement is a building material (Construction Products Regulation EU Regulation 305/2011), produced in compliance with the harmonized European standard EN 197/1 laying down composition, features and conformity criteria for common cements. Cement is an inorganic material composed of finely ground small granules of different substances but with a statistically homogeneous composition. Cement is a hydraulic binder that produces a reaction when mixed with the appropriate quantities of aggregates and water, forming a substance that gradually hardens and can bind solid inert materials such as sand and gravel to produce cementitious conglomerates, ready mixes and mortars, which constitute the basic building materials.
The aim of the document is to evaluate the potential environmental impact from the production of different gray cements. The EPD is based on a sector representative sample of s associated with AITEC and also includes the assessment of the potential environmental impact from the clinker production. The EPD considers also the grinding plants.
